Lilycroft Nursery School has strong links with the nursery education pioneer Margaret MacMillan. It was one of 3 open-air nursery schools opened in Bradford in 1921. Miriam Lord OBE, a student of Margaret Macmillan, was its first head teacher. Her nursery practice was based on holistic care and education involving both parent and child.
Our Partnerships
Lilycroft Nursery School and Farcliffe Family Centre are both deeply committed to contributing to the regeneration of Manningham, and a better future for children and their families. We began to work together in 1999, creating a forward thinking and innovative Education/Social Services partnership and establishing a playgroup, run by Nursery School staff, in the Family Centre.
With head teachers from 3 other Nursery Schools in Manningham/Girlington we then developed the Early Start project. This aimed to give young emergent bilingual children and their families the chance both to experience high quality early years education, and to understand and experience the value of learning through play. We are now a fully designated Children’s Centre.
