Objectives

The Children and Young People's Plan aims to ensure that every child and

young person in the district is supported towards achieving the five high

level outcomes identified in the Every Child Matters Strategy, which are to:

 

Be healthy
· Reduce infant mortality
· Improve child nutrition
· Reduce teenage pregnancy

Stay Safe
· Reduce number of looked after children
· Improve outcomes for looked after children
· Minimise incidence of abuse and neglect
· Reduce incidence of children going missing

Enjoy and achieve
· Promote a range of recreational activities, including play and voluntary learning provision
· Support vulnerable groups of children and young people (including looked after children, children and young people with learning difficulties and/or disabilities and specific black and ethnic minority groups) to enjoy and achieve
· Increase attainment, particularly at Key Stages 2 and 4
· Increase attendance for those children and young people at school and increase provision for those who do not attend school

Make a positive contribution
· Reduce offending and re-offending rates
· Improve behaviour in schools
· Provide and ensure access to a range of positive activities for all young people

Achieve economic well-being
· Children and young people who are looked after are helped to achieve economic well being
· Children and young people with learning difficulties and/or disabilities are helped to achieve economic well-being
· Ensure parents have access to childcare to enable them to work or train and support them to access training and work
