Classes and Groups
Please see below some of the groups and classes we offer at Farcliffe & Lilycroft Children & Family Centre. We dont offer all of the classes and groups at the same time, they vary from term to term.

Please see our groups timetables for more information about dates of when courses are running at the moment,you must come into the centre and fill in a form as there is a waiting list for most classes and groups.

ENJOY & ACHIEVE

 

PLAYGROUP

Qualified crèche workers will introduce your child to a range of activities to meet the needs of your child and keep you updated about their development throughout their time at our setting.  Each playgroup place lasts for one academic term only.  Your child must be aged 2 to attend these sessions.

 

 

RHYMING BOXES / SACKS

This group promotes language and social skills. Parents/ carers decorate a box and make resources to go into the box. The resources will have to do with nursery rhymes and made by hand. At the end of each session children will be taught by their parents/carers to sing the nursery rhyme and use the resources to make it fun. You will be able to take the box with resources home and continue the rhymes at home.

 

 

TOY & BOOK LIBRARY (Drop in)

The toy library includes a variety of different toys and books for children up to the age of 5 years old. The toy library sessions run twice a week and you can drop in to borrow a book and a toy.

 

TOTS & TINIES (Drop in)

This is a group for parents who have children under the age of 14 months. It is a chance to meet new people from the area and introduce the children to a social environment where they can play with age appropriate toys from birth.

 

 

CARERS COMPLEX HEALTH NEEDS SUPPORT GROUP (monthly)

This group supports parents and carers of children with complex health needs, providing them with information on different health issues and an opportunity to meet parents with similar experiences. 

 

 

STAY & PLAY (Drop in)

This group  is about interacting with your child supporting them with activities that improve their development. Activities include nursery rhymes,  story time, sand and water play. So come along and  meet and share experiences with other parents. We will cover a range of topics such as road safety, child development, accident prevention and how to access childcare.

FUN & FAMILIES

A free 9 week programme. Suitable for  parents and carers. The course offers positive parenting techniques.

 

 

 

NURTURING PROGRAMME

This is a 10 week course offering parents techniques on how to deal with difficult behaviour, and tips on how to become a better parent. We provide a safe environment to talk about your experience being a parent.

 

DADS INTRODUCTION TO ENGLISH

This class is aimed at dads and male carers who speak little or have no knowledge of the English language. The group supports adults in providing opportunities to read, write, speak and listen according to each individuals capabilities and previous knowledge. Although their is no certification for this group it can give the students the confidence to access other higher level English courses such as the ESOL class.

 

LITERACY

Want to update your skills for employment?  Want to help your children with their homework? A team of experienced, supportive teachers will discuss your learning with you.  The class will lead to a nationally recognised qualification.

 

DAD’S GROUP / MEN BEHAVING DADLY

This group is for dads and male carers of children from birth to 5. The aim of the session will be to provide fun, adventurous play activities for dads/carers to enjoy playing with their children, and to learn about how play is crucial to a child's development.

 

TIME OUT

Time Out is a place for parents to try new activities, and share experiences with other parents and carers. Time out activities will include beauty, relaxation, arts, mehndi and other  creative activities to support the emotional wellbeing or parents/ carers.

 

 Economic Wellbeing

 

DEBT ADVISOR & EASTERN EUROPEAN ADVICE

Support is offered around financial hardship and benefit advice. You have to book an appointment with the debt advisor in advance at the reception.

WORKING WITH CHILDREN

Want to work with children? This is a 14 week certificate childcare course delivered by Shipley College. This course offers learners a basic overview of childcare and opportunities in the workforce.

 

 

JOB CENTRE PLUS

Are you unemployed, and need to find part-time or full-time work.  Our Employment Adviser can help you find the right job. Get help and advice with filling in forms and making a C.V. Can signpost to training and access childcare funding.

 

JEWELLERY MAKING

Want to learn a new skill? This is the group for you. This course will provide you with techniques to make your own jewellery.

 

KNITTING

This is a beginners knitting class which will build up your knitting skills week by week. Be the end of the programme learners will have produced a small item of knitting to take away with them.

 

BEGINNERS IT CLASSES

This course will allow you to learn how to get onto the internet ad use website such as Facebook etc, set up an email addres and send emails, word processing and lots more.

 Be Healthy

PLAY POD / OUTDOOR PLAY

The play pod is open every Saturday 12.00-1.45. It is a chance for children to have time to play outside in the natural environment. Children under 6 must be accompanied by an adult.

 

BABY WEANING

This group is for parents with children who are currently at the weaning stage (5-6 months old). We will be preparing simple meals with the parents and giving advice about different aspects of weaning.

 

COOK & EAT SESSION

The aim of our cook & eat group is to provide and share skills, knowledge and confidence to cook healthy family meals on a budget. We will cook different recipes and keep in mind the eat well plate ensuring a balanced meal is created.

 

HEALTH TRAINER

Your local NHS health trainer offers free confidential guidance and support, one-to-one  meetings, information about healthy living. Whatever health changes you are ready to make contact our Health Trainer. It could be just the thing you need to get started!

 

 

BABY MASSAGE

Baby Massage has been found to help bonding and interaction between baby and parent. Classes are open to all parents and babies, to aid their healthy development. So come and learn by joining our FREE 5 week course. Certificates will be given on completion.
