A Day In The Life

A Day in the life of an Early Years Practitioner : Sunflowers

My day begins, after arriving for my shift be it an early or a late one, by meeting and greeting of the parents and children on their arrival to nursery.

I then make sure that there are various stimulating activities to cover all the areas of learning development for the children. Alongside my fellow colleagues, we each focus on various activities and key children making written observations to be recorded into each childs record of achievement.

We work on encouraging speech and language development as well as all other areas of development and also we try to create a safe, stimulating, happy environment for children parents and other colleagues.

We prepare snacks with the children, encourage exploration and social development through play both inside and out.

We plan future activities.

A Day in the life of an Early Years Support Worker : Daffodils

In a typical day, the support worker on arriving at work will open up the room and set it up.

We meet and greet parents and children and provide toast and milk for the early starters.

The support workers share various duties including changing nappies for those who require it and supervising those who don't in the bathroom. We prepare snack, prepare and maintain the play/learning environment both inside and outside, provide first aid if and when it is required. We assist at meal times and clean up after. We make up beds in a quiet area for those who sleep.

As well as carrying out these duties, the support worker engages with the children and guides them through various play/learning activities, ensuring they are exposed to a variety of activities including water and sand play, creative play, music, singing, story telling, home corner, construction, I.T, and the outdoors.

Through the day we make real-time observations of the childrens behaviour so we can form a profile of the child over a period of time and assess their progress and development. We also complete daily feedback forms so parents can see what their child has done and eaten that day. We engage as much as possible with parents.

At the end of the day, we tidy everything away ready for the next day.
